About The Next Step

  • In August 2004 The Next Step was formed and we began providing service coordination directly as opposed to contracting with a not-for-profit agency.
  • The Next Step's Service Coordinators help individuals with developmental disabilities identify and prioritize their wants and needs and then help them find the supports they need to reach their goals.
  • To receive service coordination from The Next Step an individual must have a developmental disability, must be eligible for services from the Springfield Regional Center, and must be a resident of Greene County.
  • The Next Step's Service Coordinators work with the individual's support team (family members, friends, service providers, school personnel, etc.) to develop a personal plan for the individual. The personal plan outlines the objectives, action steps, timelines and the responsible party for each action step.
  • Individuals receiving service coordination from The Next Step have access to the same services/funding as individuals who receive service coordination from the Springfield Regional Center.
  • We limit the number of individuals served by each of our service coordinators to 35 in order to allow our service coordinators to have more time for each individual and family.
  • The Next Step office is located at 500 W. Battlefield in Springfield.
  • Our office is available for meeting, but our service coordinators meet with individuals and families at whatever location is chosen by the individual and the team.
  • A significant part of service coordination is helping individuals as they transition into new phases of life.
